With over 100 years of combined experience, the doctors of Lakewood and Los Alamitos Eye Physicians and Surgeons and Long Beach Laser Center make up one of the most knowledgeable and experienced ophthalmology groups in the nation. Our doctors are known throughout California and the U.S. not only for their skill and experience, but for exceptional patient care, a conservative approach, and for being on the forefront of technology. Utilizing state-of-the-art technologies and techniques, our surgeons serve as clinical investigators for numerous products and technologies. Patients often times have the benefit of being first in the nation to receive the benefits of new technologies. Our surgeons are teaching professors and participate as clinical investigators for some of the latest products and technologies, including the newest generation of implantable lenses for cataract and refractive surgery.
Ronald H. Hartman, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Founded Lakewood / Los Alamitos Eye Physicians and Surgeons in 1964. He is a full clinical professor at University of California, Irvine and considered one of the most experienced ophthalmologists practicing today in the United States. Dr. Hartman has enjoyed practicing in Lakewood for over 40 years. His many honors and leadership positions include: Chairman of the Governing Board and Chief of Staff at Lakewood Regional Medical Center, Chief of Ophthalmology at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, and Admissions interviewer for Cornell University.
Larry A. Pasquali, M.D., F.A.C.S..
Joined Dr. Ronald Hartman in 1978. He is currently the Medical Director of our surgery center. A full clinical professor at UC Irvine, Dr. Pasquali specializes in anterior segment and small incision surgery. As a graduate of M.I.T and U.C.L.A. School of Medicine, Dr. Pasquali is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and The American College of Surgeons. An accomplished teacher, he has served as a Clinical Instructor and Instructor of Ophthalmic Surgery at University of California, Irvine as well as the Veterans’ Hospital in Long Beach. Dr. Pasquali received an Award of Recognition for his 30 years of service to our nation’s veterans.
Carl T. Hartman, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Has been actively performing refractive surgery since joining his father in practice in 1990. He is Board Certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a full Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of California, Irvine. His extensive surgery credentials include certification in all of the latest refractive techniques as well as the latest cataract and implant techniques. Dr. Carl also performs clear corneal sutureless lensectomy as well as corneal transplantation.
Trinh T. Nhu, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Joined the practice in 1997 with the opening of the Los Alamitos office. She has been key in the formation of this practice. Today she practices in both Lakewood and Los Alamitos. Dr. Nhu is a well respected surgeon and an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at The University of California, Irvine. As a board certified Diplomate of Ophthalmology, Dr. Nhu specializes in Disease and Surgery of the Anterior Segment, including the latest multifocal implants. In addition to cataract, glaucoma and pterygium surgeries, Dr. Nhu has a special interest in eyelid plastic surgery.
Emma L. Clay, M.D.
Was educated at UCLA Medical Center ‘s prestigious Jules Stein Eye Institute. Having completed her Ophthalmology training after graduating from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Dr. Clay was awarded numerous honors, including the Paul Kayser International Scholar Award, the Jules Stein Alumni Association Resident Research Grant, and the Caroll R. Mullen Memorial Prize in Ophthalmology. In addition to general ophthalmology, Dr. Clay specializes in facial cosmetics, refractive surgery, cataracts and uveitis. Dr. Clay is a consultant at the Veterans’ Hospital in Long Beach.
